On 29th
September, 2025, US President Donald Trump held a Press meeting. Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was also present there along with President Trump.
In the Press meeting President Trump proposed 20 points to bring peace in the
Gaza strip. Prime Minister Netanyahu immediately accepted the plan. President
Trump gave some time to Hamas to think about the plan. Hamas already agreed to
accept the plan with some conditions. Negotiations are still going on.
In this context,
let’s check and analyze the points in brief.
The 20- points plan can be divided under three headings, they are,
firstly, points deal with immediate actions to end the war,
secondly, points, which deal with future economic development of the Gaza Strip and
thirdly, a few points which deal
with political future of the Gaza Strip.
The points which
include immediate action plans to end the war are, immediate release of
hostages by Hamas, Israeli forces will withdraw, Israel will release 250 life
sentence prisoners and 1,700 Gazans, who were detained by Israel, during the
process, all military operations will be suspended. To make the after-war
situation more peaceful the Plan included amnesty provision for Hamas members,
who commit to peaceful coexistence and decommission their weapons. Hamas members,
who want leave Gaza will be provided safe passage to receiving countries.
The economic
development points include, sending humanitarian aid to Gaza to rebuild
critical infrastructure, for example, hospitals, distribution of aid through
the United Nations and its different agencies, Red Crescent and through other
international institutions those are not associated in any manner with either
party. The Plan also proposed a Trump economic development pan to rebuild the
whole Gaza Strip. The plan includes establishment of a special economic zone
and other frameworks to create jobs, opportunity and hope for Gaza.
The political
framework points include proposal of establishment of a temporary transitional
governance of a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee. This committee
will be made up qualified Palestinians and international experts. The committee
will be supervised by a new international transitional body, ‘Board of Peace’, headed
and chaired by President Donald Trump and other members and heads of state
like, Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. The Hamas factions should agree
to not have any role in the governance of Gaza directly, indirectly or in any
form. A permanent demilitarization process of Gaza has been proposed. President
Trump also proposed that the US will work with Arab and international partners
to develop a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) to train
Palestinians to build a police force.
