On 20th January, 2025, Donald Trump took
oath as the President of the United States of America (USA) for 2nd
time. The moment was historic from various points. President Trump is only the
second President of USA in last 230 years of US electoral history, who gained
Presidency after a loss in re-election, after Grover Cleveland, the 22nd
and 24th President of the US.
The ceremony was indoor, due to harsh winter weather.
In his inaugural speech, he touched a number of international issues, for
example, trade tariff, inflation, foreign policy etc. He also promised that ‘the
golden age of America’ has just begun and the country will soon be ‘greater,
stronger and far more exceptional than ever before.’
The ceremony was also significant from the point of international affairs. Three ex-President of the USA, Bill Clinton, Barak Obama and Joe Biden was present there. Ex US Vice-President Kamla Harris, whom Mr. Trump defeated this time, were also present in the ceremony. Indian foreign minister, Mr. Jaishankar attended the ceremony from India. He carried a letter from PM Modi for President Trump. In a curious move, Mr. Han Zheng, Vice-President of China attended the ceremony. As no high-level senior officials from China attended previous Presidential oath ceremonies in the USA.
