External Affairs Minister, Dr. Jaishankar Interact with Media in the US (January 22, 2025)

Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India, attended a brief press interaction in the US and answer to a set of questions. He was in the US as Special Envoy of the Prime Minister for the inauguration of President Trump and Vice President Vance. During his stay he also attended a Quad Foreign Ministers meeting, met National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Speaker Johnson and several other political leaders of the US.

While expressing his overall impressions, he was very clear that the Trump administration was keen to have India present at the inaugural, and they're clearly prioritizing the bilateral relationship. He was also sure that the Trump administration 2.0 is ready to continue building the foundation of relationship, which the first Trump administration had started. He also emphasis on President Trump’s close relation with PM Modi. He also expressed his firm believe regarding increase in activities of Quad, one of the major foreign policies move by President Trump in 2017. In fact, the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting was held on the first day of the administration at work, within hours of Secretary Rubio being sworn in and Mr. Jaishankar was clear that the meeting itself was the message. During the interaction with media he also confirmed that for Quad, Indo-Pacific is a very crucial region.

While answering questions, Mr. Jaishankar confirmed that he and secretary Rubio discussed the illegal migration issue in the US. He firmly established India’s position and his believe in global workplace concept and legal mobility of people. During the interaction he also confirmed he had discussed the Bangladesh issue with the US officials.
