External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar’s visit to the United Arab Emirates (January 27-29, 2025)

External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar visited the United Arab Emirates on an official trip from 27 to 29 January 2025. This was Dr. S Jaishankar’s third official visit to the UAE, since the beginning of his second term as Minister of External Affairs in June 2024.

In December, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of UAE His Highness Sheikh Abdullah visited India for the bilateral Joint Commission Meeting and Strategic Dialogue. Within one month the visit of Dr. Jaishankar to UAE clearly conveyed several messages. The visit strengthened the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. It also reflects sustained and regular high-level engagements from both the countries.

During the visit, on January 27, Dr. S Jaishankar participated in India’s 76th Republic Day Celebrations in Abu Dhabi. In a special gesture, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of UAE HH Sheikh Abdullah graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Other significant dignitaries, who joined the celebration were, Minister of Tolerance His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak (Guest of Honor), Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr. Sultan Jaber, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Thani Zeyoudi, and several high-ranking government officials, members of diplomatic corps and prominent members of Indian diaspora in the UAE etc.

 

During the visit, Dr. S Jaishankar met with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi His Highness Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Dr. S Jaishankar’s counterpart Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed. They discussed several issues including the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, regional and international developments of mutual interest, India’s strong and ever-growing economic and people-to-people ties with Dubai, they reviewed bilateral cooperation in different areas including technology, defence and security, education, culture and connectivity. They also discussed avenues for future partnership between India and UAE

Dr. S Jaishankar also attended the first edition of the Raisina Middle East Conference organised by Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in Abu Dhabi, as the Chief Guest. He delivered the keynote address at the inaugural session of the event. The address highlighted the importance of India – UAE engagement and the significance of this partnership in an increasingly turbulent world. EAM Dr. Jaishankar and HH Sheikh Abdullah also participated in a conversation on ‘The World in 2025’ at the Conference.

Dr. S Jaishankar reiterated Prime Minister’s invitation to Crown Prince Crown of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to visit India at an early date.
