At the invitation of President Macron, PM Modi will visit France in the next week. He will be there from 10th to 12th February, 2025. PM Modi will arrive Paris in the evening of the 10th February. On the 11th of February, the Prime Minister will co-chair the AI Action Summit, along with President Macron. The Summit is going to be held at the Grand Palais in Paris. Considering the profound impact of Artificial Intelligence in all sectors of economy, polity, society and governance, this summit is highly significance. This is the third such high level summit that is being held in the very recent past. The first of these was in the UK in 2023, the second one in the Republic of Korea in 2024, and now this one in France.

In this regard, Diplomacy and Global Politics has tried to understand the significance of the Summit.

The AI Action Summit will bring together heads of State and Government, international organizations and companies of all sizes, representatives from academia, researchers, non-governmental organizations, artists and other members of civil society from across the globe. Major dignitaries, for example, U.S. Vice President JD Vance for the American delegation, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Microsoft President Brad Smith, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Vice Premier of China Zhang Guoqing will attend the Summit.

The summit follows previous editions held in the UK in 2023 and in South Korea in 2024. These summits are mainly driving the global discourse on the governance of AI technology.

The Summit will focus on five major themes, they are, Public Service AI, Future of Work, Innovation and Culture, Trust in AI and Global Governance of AI.

India is interested in AI applications that are designed, developed, deployed, and used in a safe, humane, responsible, ethical and trustworthy manner. India is also concerned about the inevitable technology gap that it expects these kinds of developments to create and which it is going to be India’s effort to try and minimize it as much as possible.
