PM Modi's 75th Birthday- Some Interesting Findings

Today, on 17th September, 2025, Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi turned 75 years. When the whole India is celebrating this joyous moment, Diplomacy and Global Politics finds some interesting achievements of PM Modi, which India can celebrate in his 75th birthday.

In last 77 years, independent India witnessed 18 general elections and tenure of 14 Prime Ministers. In a Parliamentary democracy like India, becoming a Prime Minister was never an easy task. The huge size of the country, a vast population, its versatility in culture, language, religion, lifestyle and necessities, only make the procedure more challenging. One instance will be enough to understand the difficulties, that in the history of independent India, only three leaders served consecutive two full terms as Prime Minister of India. These three Prime Ministers are, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Mr. Narendra Modi.

After 2024 general election, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has become eligible to form the government. On 24th June, 2024, Mr. Narendra Modi took oath as the Prime Minister of India and created a historical moment in the electoral history of India. He is the second political leader who took oath for consecutive 3rd term to serve as Prime Minister of India.

There is only one Prime Minister of India, who can match this achievement, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He also completed consecutive two full terms (1952-1957, 1957-1962) and re-elected as the Prime Minister of India for third term in 1962. His service as Prime Minister of India was abruptly ended by his demise in 1964.

PM Modi’s achievement, however, stands tall because of the Indian National Congress dominant political environment of India. Since independence, Indian politics had remained dominated by Indian National Congress. The non-Congress political parties started flexing their muscles since 1990s. But even then, Dr. Monmohan Singh, who was elected as Prime Minister for consecutive two full terms (2004 and 2009), was from Indian National Congress. Mr. Modi’s soaring in ceremony in 2024 broke all the previous achievements of non-Congress political parties. He became the first non-Congress Prime Minister, in the history of independent India, who took oath for India’s highest administrative position consecutive 3rd time.

By securing trust and support of the vast population of India and major Indian leaders, Prime Minister Modi proved his unparallel popularity in present Indian politics.

He is also one of most popular leaders in the global stage. Till now, he has received 27 foreign highest civilian awards, a rare feat achieved by any Indian Prime Minister. In the last 11 years, as Prime Minister of India, he successfully managed several crucial international and domestic issues. In his 75th Birthday, we wish him a very happy and prosperous birthday.
