Growing Ties between India and Mongolia

Currently,
President of Mongolia, H.E. Mr. Khurelsukh Ukhnaa is on a State Visit to India.
This is his first visit to India as Head of State of Mongolia.
He is accompanied
by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament,
Senior officials, business leaders and cultural representatives.
70 years ago,
India and Mongolia were established diplomatic relations. In the last seven
decades, India and Mongolia developed a close and multifaceted partnership. 10
years ago, India and Mongolia elevated their relationship to Strategic
Partnership.
Therefore, this
year, both the countries celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relationship and 10
years of Strategic Partnership. To mark the occasion, India and Mongolia
released a Joint Postal Stamp.
Celebrating the
spiritual bond between India and Mongolia, India is sending the holy relics of two great disciples of Lord
Buddha, Arhant Maudgalyayana and Arhant Sariputra, to
Mongolia.
During his tour he
met with President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu, Vice-President Shri C. P.
Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Mr. Modi, EAM Mr. Jaishankar, Defence Minister
Mr. Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Mr. Nadda. He also visited Parliament
House and toured the building along with Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri Om
Birla.
India is already
one of the major developing partners of Mongolia. India supported Mongolia with
1.7 billion Line of Credit (LOC) to construct oil refinery. This is India’s
largest LOC supported project. A large number of Indian experts are working there in
the project. The refinery equipment is being manufactured in India and will be
shipped to Mongolia. It is expected that the refinery would be in operation by
2028.
India and Mongolia
are also working to intense their defence cooperation. Currently, India and
Mongolia are engaged in a number of joint exercises, they are, Nomadic Elephant
and Khan Quest. India also assists Mongolia in cyber security training. India will also
launch a new capacity-building program for Mongolia’s border security forces.
During his visit
President Khurelsukh also offered India to support them in developing cashmere
wool industry for the consumers of both the markets of India and Mongolia as
well as for third markets.
Mongolia also
reserves a number of critical minerals, but as a landlocked country, it has to
depend on Tianjin port (China) and Vladivostok (Russia) for trade with India.
India is looking for an economically beneficial transport option to increase
trade with Mongolia.
