Prime Minister Modi’s Visit to Kuwait, 21-22nd December, 2024

On December 21st,
Prime Minister of India, Mr. N. Modi, visited Kuwait in a two-day state visit.
Because of a number of reasons, the visit turned not only successful but also
historic.
India has a strong
trade, energy partnership and cultural relation with Kuwait. The country is one
of the long standing and significant energy partner of India. Presence of a
huge Indian diaspora in Kuwait is another cause which helped to build strong
connection between the two nations.
PM Modi’s visit strengthened
the partnership between the two countries. Mr. Modi was the first Indian Prime
Minister in the last four decades, who visited Kuwait. In his visit, elevating
the ties to strategic partnership, both countries enhanced cooperation in
various sectors, for example, defence, technology, infrastructure, energy,
investment etc. Recognizing present Indian Prime Minister’s contribution to
strengthen bilateral relations, the Kuwaiti leadership bestowed their highest
distinction – ‘The Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer’ to Mr. Modi. PM Modi, was also
attended the opening ceremony of Arabian Gulf Cup as a ‘Guest of Honour’.
During his visit, PM Modi met with Amir of
Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This was the
first meeting between the two leaders. Discussing the strong historical and
friendly ties between the two countries, both the leaders agreed to elevate the
ties to ‘Strategic Partnership’. The decision is also going to strengthen India’s
influence and position in the Gulf region.
PM Modi also met
with Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled
Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah and Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait His
Highness Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. In their discussion, both
the PM of India and Kuwait emphasized on deepening economic cooperation between
the two countries. In the presence of both PM’s, India and Kuwait signed and
exchange Framework Agreement on Kuwait joining the International Solar
Alliance. Expressing the solidarity between the two countries, which the visit
established, in a rare diplomatic gesture Prime Minister of Kuwait personally came
to the airport to see off the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Modi.
